The first session is a useful time to be able to ask any questions you have concerning how counselling works or questions for me specifically as a counsellor. It is an opportunity to determine if counselling is the right option for you at this specific time in your life. If you have questions that you would like answered before setting an initial appointment, please feel free to contact me, and I would be glad to discuss those questions with you.
Much of the success of therapy directly hinges on the comfort of the therapy relationship between the client and counsellor. Therefore, getting to know one another and determining the "fit" between us is important in the first few sessions. If, after the first couple sessions, you decide that you would be more comfortable meeting with a different therapist, you are under no obligation to continue seeing me. My desire for you is that you are in an environment of comfort and safety as you go through the counselling process.
